Baby photography is unreal! Welcoming a new baby into your life (whether it’s your first or third) is no small feat and each stage of those early days, weeks and months offer something special and new – their hospital bracelets, flaky skin, little yawns, newborn expressions, diddy feet and fingers as well as their first feeds.

I believe in photographing life ‘as we live it’ so what better way to start than to tell their story from the raw beginning as those early days fly by and before you know it, you have a little person crawling, walking, and leaving babyhood behind. Many of these moments can soon be lost in the fog of your “babymoon” so a photo session at home, in your own environment, within the spaces that mean something to you, is a great way of capturing you and your baby comfortably.

If you have older children, four legged siblings or extended family, we can get them involved as well whilst also making time for some intimate photos of you and your new baby alone.

You can choose any of my family packages to photograph your bump, newborn or older baby – it’s a ‘no fuss’ arrangement and I come with all the equipment I need. All photography is done in natural-light in a documentary style with no posing, props or lights. This is not a posed newborn photography shoot with beanbags and blankets which you may have seen elsewhere, but a much more natural and authentic approach telling their story from the very start. Let me show you how baby photography can be done differently!

Milestones

I’m often asked about the perfect time to photograph pregnant women and babies and whilst any time is a good time (yes really!) there are a few big milestones that are always great to capture…

Last Trimester

When a baby bump is clearly visible. Maternity shoots can feature just the mum-to-be or dad can get involved as well. It’s also a lovely idea to involve siblings in the family if there are any too.

Newborns

A one-off opportunity to creatively document the curled up cuteness and fresh little features – toes, fingers and ‘puckered up’ lips and perhaps the nursery details you’ve spent time choosing. I always allow a little more time for these sessions (at no extra cost) for feeding, changing and settling where necessary.

Newborn sessions ideally take place within the first 7-21 days of life, with the best time being under 12 days old when they are sleepy and docile with that predictable newborn ‘curl’ but honestly – anytime you feel up to it is fine!

4-8 months

A lovely age where your baby is very alert, interacting with smiles and giggles. At 6 months they can most likely sit and hold their own head up during tummy time and because they probably aren’t crawling yet they are well positioned for me to capture some close crop portraits too.

12-18 months

The first major milestone when little people have developed plenty of personality and expression. They have probably mastered the art of standing up, with or without support and can possibly even walk. They have favourite toys that they simply can’t live without and are brilliantly unpredictable.

Whatever stage you are at please remember these are simply a guide. My best advise is never to wait until the perfect time because life happens and this precious period flies by so quickly. I absolutely love baby photography and I promise I will do my best to put you at ease.
